Here are some questions I get emails about frequently.
What is that green guitar you play all the time?
That guitar started life as a Hamer Daytona. These guitars were made in the early to late 90's. The quality of these guitars (and all of Hamers guitars) are very underrated and exceptional quality. I own quite a few of them. The main one has a Seymour Duncan hot rail in the bridge and it's on about it's 3rd Wilkinson tremolo at this point. The T-51 is also a great guitar too. In my opinion they are real "sleeper" guitars.
What is that purple guitar you play?
The purple tele style guitar is a Melancon Custom T guitar built by my good friend Gerard Melancon in Louisiana. I also own a strat style guitar that Gerard built for me that is a aqua color. The pickups are custom wound to Gerard's specifications and I'm not sure what they are- I just know I like the way they sound.
Do you teach lessons privately?
I haven't taught privately for a long time. Most of the reason is due to the fact that I just don't have much spare time to commit to students. If you want to really get serious I have a few instructional courses I have done for True Fire available here-
I also have quite a few instructional columns and lessons floating around the internet that I've done for Guitar Player Magazine and Premier Guitar.
Here is an old one on effective practicing- Effective Practicing
And a great warm up picking exercise- Take your Pick
"I have your book "New Orleans Funk Guitar" and I love it. Is there any other books or videos you might suggest to learn this style?"
If you are interested in this style I strongly recommend my instructional video that I did for True Fire entitled "Rhythm Mojo". It's got tons of stuff included- over 80 minutes of lessons and some of the play alongs from my own records. You can order off the site here at my LESSONS page.
I've lost my CD for "New Orleans Funk Guitar" styles that came with the book. Is it possible to get just the MP3's?
Yes it is, just click here to purchase all of the MP3's.
What kinds of strings do you use?
I use D'Addario strings on all my guitars and depending on the guitar usually 10-46 although I will also use 11-52 as well. I like 12-52 on acoustic.
What kind of wah wah pedal did you use on Live from Daryl's House?
It's just a stock Crybaby wah that I've had since I was a teenager.
