My guest this episode is Mr. Oz Noy. One of the most accomplished guitarists out there on the scene today, Oz has it all- amazing chops, vocabulary, technique, all delivered with touch, soul and tone. His 9 solo records capture all of this and, if that's not enough there's more; he uses the best rhythm sections in the world, surrounding himself with drummers including Dave Weckl, Keith Carlock, Anton Fig and bassists Will Lee, James Genus and Jimmy Haslip. As you'll hear in the podcast, touring all over the world with his own music isn't what he originally set out to do, but it's nice work if you can get it. He also has a nice resume of backing up artists in the studio and live such as Gavin Degraw, Richard Bona, Chris Botti,Harry Belafonte, Cyndi Lauper, Clay Aiken, Akiko Yano and more. He also has a new band that you'll hear about called Ozone Squeeze.

In this interview we'll discuss his early years in Tel Aviv, moving to NYC, putting together his first record (Oz Live) and how he rehearses the bands, pedals- (he'll talk about what his favorite most useful pedal is), his instructional videos for True Fire, current state of the blues in his opinion, influences and much, much more. Plus you get my usual doses of sarcasm and bad humor.

Try the gym? Been a gym rat since playing sports growing up (soccer and tennis). Any hobby that helps you stay healthy is a +. Couldn't surf or skate board very well...lol

i don't really know what you mean by that haha...I'm guessing I must have said I didn't have hobbies or something on one of those podcasts?

Jonathan C.

Amusing... I was just trying to share some of your music with the friend earlier after watching John wick 4 and I ran across a Podcast have guitar wheel travel and just finish listening to it! Being from Southern California I quit golfing when I was a teenager because it was too boring and never learn to fish and would only hunt if I needed to eat really bad ? Still looking for those hobbies myself but I really like to read a lot, travel...watch the weirdness locally!

Don't forget...in case I do, but I have a "Bang Your Head" t-shirt from Carlos's wife for you when I run into again (unless I ship it to the Valley?)

It was originally a Song written partially by Carlos brother Tony called "No More Booze"

"… what a drag, we got no more booze". It was that instead of banging your head! No wonder I gave up on heavy metal/hard rock? I was a Steve Morse follower by then. Wasn't much checking out his equipment but I know that The really good players keep their fingers warm with no sound while others are taking solos and stuff...fascinating (Saw Stern doing it, but not sure how well he really recovered. Had no idea one of my favorite records "Trip", was based just on that? Just makes me respect him more)

Shane T.

great story on that song! yeah maybe next time I hit the Spud you can bring that shirt!

It is what it is... I know what song your father-in-law sang on? Rest in peace... I have a Vox amp in a Box in the garage and I have never taken it out because I never get good enough on acoustic to Where all that's missing is how I can alter the sound. I have to defer to listening to the best guitar players on the planet who happen to come in close proximity to where I currently live. What I have learned is if you are good enough you turn up the volume fairly loud, use light gauge strings, and you barely have to hit them. I finally have got to where I probably wouldn't keep breaking the E or the G-string... I don't currently have an electric guitar except my Stratacoustic (which I can't play until I fix the action!) Learned how to play a lot of Alex Lifeson stuff way back when. JC
