Combining Riffs and Rhythms

    This was posted to YouTube a few years back but though I'd add it here as well....it's a good explanation of my approach and how I think about combining "hooks" and riffs with rhythm parts.

    That C#7 with the open e is so simple but so cool. I was playing around with it and added this F#7 as the IV chord (taken from Duke Robillard column in GP a long time ago):

    I never found I good use for the Duke chords as a I chord, I really like how they sound with each other.
